The London Centre offers a multidisciplinary team approach including clinical and counselling psychology, psychiatry, dietetics, occupational therapy and family therapy. Whilst most people will have a weekly appointment with one clinician, some people will require a more holistic or comprehensive approach and so may work with more than one clinician, having a couple or sometimes multiple sessions per week. The London Centre is different from many other psychology clinics in that all our clinicians are highly trained and experienced in working with eating and body image disorders. Whilst many clinics will offer treatment for eating disorders, clinicians may not be specialists in this area. As a team, we strongly believe that effective treatment for eating disorders requires specialist skills, knowledge and experience. We are able to offer many different treatment approaches, all rooted within a framework of specialist eating and body image knowledge.
During your assessment one of the things that will be discussed is what treatment or therapy approach is likely to be best for you. There are a wide range of therapies available, and it can be confusing to know what each one is and what might be right for you. In reality, your therapist will often draw on more than one therapeutic approach. If you have any questions about different therapies, please do discuss this with your therapist during or after your initial assessment.
To give you more of an understanding of what we offer, and how they can help, we have included information about some of the main therapeutic approaches that have been shown to be effective in treating eating disorders and body image issues.
